Tummy Chronicles: Africana Eatery & Cheers Pub

Overall Restaurant Rating: ★★☆☆☆ /★★★★★

Perfect lunch for two starving little piggy’s on a Sunday afternoon. Feeling like hearty and filling yum yums? Curry is perfect for filling you up for pretty much the whole day. So I guess this place doesn’t see many people on a Sunday afternoon because we were the only ones there, and well.. actually one more person. There’s quite a selection on the menu which is pretty impressive. So let’s see, we ordered the Mix Thali on the Specialties part of the menu, which included : 1 Beef curry, 1 Chicken curry, 2 Veggie curries, BBQ chicken served with Bhajia, a Samosa, Rice, Roti, Raita, Pickle and Gulab Jaman. And a full portion of the butter chicken, because I am a little oinker! That is actually a fair bit for two people! And I should mention really reasonable!

So let’s see this was our Mix Thali

Curries from left to right: Butter Chicken, Beef Karai Masala (I think?), Palak (Spinach), and Aloo Gobi (Cauliflower and Potatoes).

That whole platter for $21.99.  Yup, no joke

How did everything taste?
Beef Curry (Karai Masala?) ★★☆☆☆/★★★★★
Butter Chicken ★★★☆☆/★★★★★
Palak ★☆☆☆☆/★★★★ Way too watery, for what I was expecting
Aloo Gobi ★★★☆☆/★★★★★
BBQ Chicken ★★☆☆☆/★★★★★ A tad burnt in places
Bhajia (Deep-fried Battered Potatoe) ★★★☆☆/★★★★★
Samosa (Veggie) ★☆☆☆☆/★★★★★ Too much bean or chickpea paste? And a tad too spicy for me
Garlic Naan (Instead of tradition Roti) ★★★☆☆/★★★★★★
Raita (Yogurt dipping sauce) ★☆☆☆☆/★★★★★
Pickle and Gulab Jaman ☆☆☆☆☆ /★★★★★ I really dislike this dessert in general. Not my style..way too sweet and mushy.

On the outside it looks like its part of an industrial strip mall, and on the inside it seems a little sketchy maybe because it is also connected to a pub, but it’s still pretty comfortable, we were seated in a little booth across a painting that reminded me of the Lion King! Oh yes if you ever get seated there you would definitely know what I’m talking about..It’s the Tree of Life! Unless you haven’t seen the Lion King, then well it just looks like any beginning of the survivor TV shows. And if you haven’t seen a glimpse of any of those, then well..umm, watch more TV. Haha
